Located in Ninh Binh province 100 km southeast of Hanoi, Hoa Lu and Tam Coc are two of the most picturesque spots in all of the north. For 41 years, from 968 to 1009 CE, Hoa Lu was the ancient capital of Vietnam. Nearby Tam Coc is often referred to as “Ha Long among the rice paddies.” Visitors are conveyed by rowboat along the peaceful Tam Coc stream past green fields and the feet of mountains into the mouths of caves, where they encounter new surprises, like stalactites and stalagmites that shimmer like gemstones just inches from the water.

Day 1: Hanoi – Cuc Phuong national park (L,D)
8.00 Depart from Hanoi by private vehicle to Cuc Phuong National Park . Visit the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre to learn about the important work being done to help protect the endangered species of the park. After lunch in the park restaurant, take a 2-hour trek through the old rainforest. Overnight in the guesthouse within the park.

Day 2: Cuc Phuong – Hoa Lu, Tam Coc – Hanoi (B,L)
After breakfast, head to the historic capital of Viet Nam and the famous ancient temples of The Le and The Dinh Dynasties. Cycling for an hour on picturesque quiet roads through villages, rice fields, rivers and rocky outcrops to Tam Coc (12km) for lunch.
After lunch, a sampan boat journey (1 hour) in the heart of “Inland Ha Long Bay”. Take in the beauty of the karsts formations as you pass along their base and row into one of the many caves carved through the limestone.
Stop for a short rest near a small shrine before returning to the dock (1 hour). Totally, you have 2 hours on the sampan boat.
Drive back to Hanoi
